NACTA Welcomes Winters as New President
At the annual meeting, held virtually in 2022 due to severe storms that debilitated the Wooster, Ohio area, Todd Winters (University of Tennessee - Martin) assumed the role of NACTA President. Accepting the gavel from then-president, M. Susie Whittington (The Ohio State University), Todd shared his view for the future of NACTA in one word: BAM.

From an interview with Todd last year about his election to the position:
"I would like to see NACTA in a place where everyone knows who we are and feels welcome to join. I’d not only like to increase our membership, but I’d like for people in DC to know who we are. Hopefully, we will be working to find funding for educational programs, building the brand of NACTA and expanding our membership and offerings.

"I would love to see more leadership and continued engagement from the Canadian groups as well as more collaboration and activities with our partners in Mexico. As the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture, we can and should be more representative of all locations we cover.

"The beauty of NACTA is that it still affords us an opportunity for all institutions to be main players, contributors, movers and shakers within the organization. Everyone, schools large and small, has a place at the table. Of all the organizations that I’m involved with, this is my favorite. At conferences, we can all discuss the scholarship of teaching and learning while so many others aren’t as focused on that aspect. This is a place where you can go to talk about how you failed, and you can learn from that failure. At a lot of meetings, you can’t do that. NACTA is a family reunion every year because it is a family."

NACTAlks - For members by members!

Each of us has our own teaching personality. Each of us has also likely experienced successes and setbacks while teaching that would help our colleagues if they knew about them. What better way to celebrate those “teachable moments” that happen in our classrooms and labs than by sharing these short stories from the teaching trenches!

NACTAlks Teaching is a new component of our newsletter that will showcase our teachers (faculty and graduate students) sharing short stories of something that worked, or didn’t work, while teaching. Consider submitting a video yourself or nominating someone to submit a video that…

•  Is less than 2-minutes in length
•  Is recorded with a camera that is held horizontally (for optimal taping with your cell phone)
•  Highlights a lesson learned from a recent teaching experience (i.e., “that worked!” or “I’ll change that next time”)
•  Is edu-taining ��

NACTA 2023 is Going to Las Cruces!

Conference Program
The annual meeting of the North Americal Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) offers many opportunities for education and networking and brings agricultural education across the continuum together. This meeting offers workshops, poster and oral presentations, a Keynote Presentation, a Blue Ribbon Presentation, and several networking opportunities. At this annual meeting of the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture (NACTA) you will be able to connect with and learn from others who share the same passion for the improvement of teaching and learning in agriculture, food and natural resources. The annual NACTA conference will provide you with new teaching techniques, ideas and resources. It is also one of the best professional development activities for networking with other teaching professionals where the common discipline is “teaching.”

Who should attend?
Our annual meeting is designed for all those who teach and lead curricula in the fields of agriculture, environmental, life, and natural sciences. Participants include educators and graduate students from a number of North American institutions.

About Las Cruces
Las Cruces, New Mexico is renowned for its outdoor recreation, robust history, and - most of all - culinary experiences. The ever-so-famous red chile vs green chile debate will be the talk of the 2023 NACTA Conference! While you visit Las Cruces, make sure you visit the award-winning Farmers & Crafts Market. Are you more into the outdoors? Las Cruces has over 100 miles of scenic hiking trails as well as golfing, biking, and horseback riding.
