2011 NACTA Conference will be held June 14 - 18, 2011 at University of Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The call for abstracts is now on the NACTAteachers.org website. Membership Renewal Time

Believe it or not, it’s time to renew your NACTA membership for 2011. If you do not renew your membership by February 20, 2011 you will no longer have access to the current issues of the NACTA Journal online. Membership forms can be found on the NACTAteachers.org website "Featured links."

 

Help NACTA grow. Remember that you could double the membership of NACTA if you encouraged one associate to join at the time you renew your membership. Make a copy of the form and encourage someone else to join!

 

 

2011 NACTA Judging Contest

The 2011 NACTA Judging Contest will be held at Modesto Junior College, Modesto, CA, April 14 - 16. Modesto Junior College (MJC) is proud to host the annual NACTA Judging Conference. MJC has two campuses, and several off campus "living laboratories" including the Beckwith Ranch. The individual contest locations will be announced closer to the date. Potential Sites for Future NACTA Conferences

The NACTA Executive Committee will begin reviewing potential sites for the 2013, 2014 and 2015 national conferences during the Fall Executive Committee meeting. University of Tennessee at Martin, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences

The University of Tennessee at Martin seeks nominations and applications for Dean of the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. The University of Tennessee at Martin, located in Northwest Tennessee, is a comprehensive university, which is part of The University of Tennessee System of higher education. The University serves approximately 8,500 students with undergraduate degrees in 80 specialized fields of study and with master's degrees in selected areas.

 

There are 50 faculty members in the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences within four departments: Agriculture, Geosciences, and Natural Resources; Family and Consumer Sciences; Military Science and Leadership; and Nursing. The college serves a strategic role in the University's mission to provide a personalized, quality undergraduate education to both traditional and non-traditional students. Master's degrees are offered in two areas: Agriculture and Natural Resources Management and Family and Consumer Sciences. The college subscribes to the University's commitment to advancing the regional and global community through scholarly activities, research and public service.

 

The college has the following accreditations: Didactic Program in Dietetics and the Dietetic Internship Program by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetics Education of the American Dietetic Association, Family and Consumer Sciences Undergraduate Program by the Council for Accreditation of the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, and the undergraduate Nursing Program by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.

 

The Dean is the chief academic officer of the college and reports to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. The Dean must be an innovative and visionary leader committed to  excellence in teaching, a student-centered learning environment, and recruitment of faculty and students to address diversity. Applicants should possess significant experience in planning, budgeting, assessment, and interdisciplinary program development. A history of success in obtaining grant funding is also desired. The successful candidate must have a terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) in a field housed in the College, a record of effective academic leadership as a dean, assistant dean, chair, or equivalent administrative position; a successful record of teaching and public service; and scholarly or creative accomplishments to justify a tenure-track appointment at the rank of professor.

 

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Review of applications will begin January 14, 2011, and continue until the position is filled. Sustainable Agriculture Apprenticeship Positions

Would you or someone you know be interested in an extended small farm work study position at the Center for Environmental Farming Systems Small Farm Unit in Goldsboro, North Carolina? We are accepting applications for the 2011 CEFS Small Farm Unit work study positions in  sustainable agriculture and local food systems. There are two options available: a 9 month summer and 4 month winter apprenticeship program.

 

The three focus areas for each apprenticeship are; fundamentals of sustainable production, community food systems, and agricultural and extension education. Participants will receive a certificate in Local Food Development from the Center for Environmental Farming Systems upon completion of their program. Cornell University Lecturer in Agricultural Science Education

Position:

Lecturer in Agricultural Science Education is 9-month position with responsibilities in teaching and service in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

 

Starting Date:

January 16, 2011 through January 15, 2012 (Teach for Spring and Fall 2011). It is anticipated the position will be at least a 3 year position.

 

Location:

Ithaca, NY, Cornell University, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences

 

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will be responsible for

1) Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses (including experiential learning in agriculture, seminar in agricultural education, youth organizations, introduction to education) in agricultural science teacher education and related areas;

2) Advising undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in agricultural science education, including the supervision of student teachers;

3) Collaborating with the Agricultural Science major to recruit students, specifically into the education concentration, and recruiting students into the university-wide education minor; and

4) Developing and delivering educational programs and materials to agricultural science teachers throughout New York State.

 

Qualifications:

A doctoral degree in agricultural science education or a closely related field is preferred, and a master’s degree is required, both with a minimum of 3 years successful agriculture teaching and total program management in secondary schools. Strong commitment to expanding and fostering diversity is required. Previous experience as a cooperating teacher for agricultural education teaching interns, strong record of leadership experience in an education organization and demonstration of lifelong learning through continuous professional development is preferred.

 

Salary:

Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
