Writing for the NACTA Journal - Tips

This section of the E-newsletter will feature helpful tips on preparing a manuscript for the NACTA Journal. All of the information featured here is available in the "Instructions for NACTA Authors" which can be downloaded from the NACTA website.

File names. Authors are either very creative with the file names for their manuscripts or they are very dull. Many manuscripts are given the file name "NACTA.doc," as you can imagine. Once manuscripts are submitted to the NACTA FastTrack site they receive an automatic manuscript number. This number is a combination of the year and the number of the manuscripts that have been submitted since we started using the FastTrack site. Authors need to use this number as the file name for their manuscripts. For example, manuscript number 2010-0250 will be given the file name "MS2010_0250 review copy" before it is prepared and uploaded to FastTrack for reviewers to download. When a manuscript is accepted or revised authors should prepare the final, revised, manuscript and upload it to the FastTrack site using the file name containing the manuscript number; for example "MS2010_0250 final."

Also when authors send emails to the editor about the status of a manuscript or questions about a manuscript including the manuscript number is critical to quickly finding a manuscript.
