Call for NACTA Journal Reviewers
The NACTA Journal is directed toward the scholarship of teaching and learning and the professional advancement of the teacher of agriculture and related disciplines. The Journal presents manuscripts on all aspects of teaching, including methods, problems, philosophy and rewards. The Journal offers something for every teacher in agriculture or a related discipline. Whether traditional classroom or extension-related, its primary purpose is to strengthen professional competence in college and adult teaching.
We currently have three lists of reviewers in the FastTrack system, and with the transition to a new manuscript system, we feel that now is the ideal time to re-establish an up-to-date reviewer list for manuscripts, abstracts and awards. On September 1, 2021, we will cease to use the existing lists. In light of this, we welcome you to volunteer as a reviewer here.
If you are currently a reviewer you will still need to complete the form.
Our reviewers are expected to have a broad interest in agricultural or related education. We will try to match the manuscript topic to your field of interest or expertise, but this is not always possible. Although expertise in the field is always helpful, the most important goal of our peer review is to judge the manuscript for its quality and appropriateness to be published in our journal and to provide the authors useful feedback. This is done using a standardized review form, and reviews must be returned within 30 days. We invite you to review at least two manuscripts per year, but of course, more is always appreciated.

Rutherford Named Associate Editor for Journal Transitions
The NACTA Journal is going through an exceptional boom in growth this fall. The new manuscript management platform will be implemented this month, the Journal will adopt the APA 7th edition style, and the newly founded NACTA Editorial Board has plans to hit the ground running beginning September 1. Working alongside NACTA Editor in Chief, Dr. Frank Robinson, is newly appointed NACTA Journal Senior Associate Editor for Journal Transitions, Dr. Tracy Rutherford.
"I'm excited to be part of making the NACTA Journal the premier academic journal for agricultural education," said Tracy. Part of the changes to elevate the NACTA Journal include a shift to the seventh edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (APA). This most recent guide from the APA, published in 2020, is standard for many top journals and is likely familiar to NACTA authors. With this shift will also come updated guidelines for authors, which will be written by Dr. Robinson and distributed this month.
"When my colleagues and peers are interested in publishing their research in agricultural education, I want the NACTA Journal to be their first choice," explains Dr. Rutherford. She has been the Head of the Virginia Tech Department of Agricultural, Leadership, and Community Education since 2019. She has been working for nearly twenty-five years in Agriculture Communications in institutions across the US and has served on several Editorial Boards and reviewer groups for relevant journals, including the Journal of Applied Communications. Leaning on her extensive background in scholarly research and community involvement, Tracy says, "I look forward to giving back to NACTA in this way."

The NACTA Journal (ISSN 0149-4910) is electronically published by the North American Colleges and Teachers of Agriculture. The articles reflect the scholarship of teaching and learning in agricultural, environmental, natural and life sciences. Topics address the art and the science of teaching and learning including teaching methods, problem-solving, and philosophical aspects of teaching and learning. All manuscripts are double-blind peer-reviewed for acceptance. The journal is published on the NACTA website and printed annually.
