Abstract:
Fertilizer, particularly nitrogen and phosphate, currently is in short supply and high priced. As a result, world food production is being held back. Construction of new plants worldwide, however, ensures that fertilizer supplies will be sufficient to meet demand and needs by the late 1970's. Whether or not fertilizer production can keep pace with food needs of the exploding populations in the years beyond 1980 seems highly problematical. Shortages of basic raw materials for fertilizer production do not appear to be a problem.
