Abstract:
The world's population, now estimated at 4 billion, is predicted to double in the next 25 to 35 years. Can the world's resources and institutions provide food and other essential products and services for that many people? Or will millions experience famine, disease, and war? Population will eventually be controlled, one way or another. The basic issue is whether this control is to be accomplised logically and humanely or irrationally and disastrously. Recognizing the problem, its magnitude and consequences, provides the basis for formulating sound national and international policies to stabilize or reduce population and to "feed them also and lift them up."
