Abstract:

This article reports an employment study by a national committee of education, labor, and agriculture members that used data from the Census of Population. Employment in occupations requiring agricultural competencies totaled 8 million, but should be adjusted upward by a million or more additional farm workers. Data are also presented by states. Implications are that, in the face of the large demand for food, a great deal of work is needed in education in agriculture at all levels.
