Abstract:

A cooperative learning term project was implemented into an introductory food science course curriculum to enhance cooperation and learning among students. Student evaluations indicated that the project encouraged group interdependence, active learning, and higher level thinking skills. Students viewed the project as a valuable and enjoyable experience and suggested that it increased their comprehension of course material. High percentages of students used skills important to cooperative learning, including higher level cognitive skills and group coordination skills, to complete the project.
